President Trump is bringing in the big guns — well, not quite guns.
Instead, he’s opting for a painful alternative to guns that doesn’t technically injure: giant heat rays known as the Active Denial System.
“The Active Denial System (ADS) is a non-lethal, directed-energy weapon developed by the U.S. military, designed for area denial, perimeter security and crowd control. Informally, the weapon is also called the heat ray since it works by heating the surface of targets, such as the skin of targeted human subjects,” the Wikipedia summary states.
The energy, when focused through its antenna, gives those in front of it the feeling of being on fire.
Here’s a graphic explaining the parts of the ADS:
This machinery will be directed at the rowdy ones in the Honduran migrant caravan that get too close to the border, more than likely. It will be operated by a small portion of the thousands of troops President Trump and Defense Secretary Mattis have allocated for the border.
In addition, Trump instructed the military to treat an attack from rocks the same as an attack from a rifle.
“Anybody throwing stones, rocks, … we will consider that a firearm because there’s not much difference when you get hit in the face with a rock,” he said, referring to the group attacking border guards in Mexico.
“We’re not going to put up with that, they throw rocks at our military, our military fights back,” he continued. “We’re going to consider, and I told them, consider it a rifle.”
