Liberal publications like the New York Times have long taken a stance (an unfair one, at that) against Israel and its people. They’ve helped develop the “Israel is evil” narrative that the left clings to, even though the rest of the world knows where the real evil originates from (Hamas terror groups, Palestine).
So it was refreshing to see a big name like Sen. Ted Cruz call out the NYT on their gross anti-Israel bias.
Speaking on the Senate floor on Thursday, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) ripped The New York Times for its anti-Israel bias and support of the terrorist group Hamas.
After speaking of the opening of the U.S. Embassy in Israel, and his discussion with Israeli Prime Minister of the historic nature of the moment, as no other country on Earth had not had its capital city go unacknowledged with an embassy by the American government until President Trump moved the embassy to Jerusalem, Cruz segued to speaking of the riots instigated by Hamas on the Gaza/Israel border. He stated:
As long as the Palestinian leaders are engaged in a unity government with Hamas, an avowed terrorist organization seeking to destroy the nation of Israel and murder innocent Israelis, peace will not be had.
We all recognize that there are those who rage against the existence of the state of Israel. There are the ayatollahs of Iran, who swear, “Death to Israel!” and “Death to America!” Indeed, who refer to Israel as the “Little Satan” and America as the “Great Satan” and who finance terrorism at Israel’s doorstep and across the world. There are the terrorists of Hamas, who seized control of the Gaza Strip over a decade ago after Israel had already fully withdrawn from the territory. The last several months, Hamas has begun organizing civilian mobs with terrorist cells embedded throughout to attack Israel’s border and the soldiers stationed there. … Hamas timed their weeks of riots to culminate this week. …
But inevitably, in these battles for survival that Israel faces daily, we can count on global media elites, acting as little more than propaganda arms for Hamas and other terrorists. And no week has that been more evident than this week.
I direct you to the front page of the New York Times from this week. The New York Times’ headline: “Israel kills dozens at Gaza border as U.S. Embassy Opens in Jerusalem.” Now anyone reading this headline, goodness gracious, why are the Israelis murdering people? That’s what the New York Times says. One takes from the coverage, apparently poor, innocent, unarmed people are being shot for no reason by Israel. That’s certainly what the global media elite are portraying.
What are the actual facts? You remember facts? The things that used to be reported when journalists were actually journalists and not propagandists. Let’s talk about the facts.
Cruz spoke of the weeks-long riots and terrorists attacks instigated by Hamas at the Gaza border. He mentioned the tire fires created to disguise attacks, mechanical catapults, guns, and petrol bombs attached to kites adorned with swastikas to set fire to Israel’s farms. He spoke of Hamas using civilians in order to gain propaganda rewards.
Cruz snapped, “It’s not that The New York Times can’t figure it out; it’s that they don’t care.” He added, “If the American military had been able to shoot the terrorists on 9/11 who flew airplanes into the World Trade Center, who flew an airplane into the Pentagon, if the military had been able to stop those terrorists and shoot those terrorists, in The New York Times reading the headline would read, “American military shoots peaceful flying passengers.”
He stated, “When you stop a terrorist seeking to commit murder, it is not shooting a peaceful protester.”
Cruz noted that most of the people killed by Israel in the recent violence were admitted by Hamas to be terrorists. He said of the Times, “What complete mendacity.”
Cruz concluded, “The blame for all of the deaths, whether terrorists or human shields, is on Hamas and Hamas alone.”
