Even though the town is in Illinois — perhaps the most left-leaning state in the Midwest, there are a lot of good people in the central and southern part of the state who are very much conservative. They’re often forgotten because of the population of liberal Chicago.
What one county just did there is a huge shot fired against the baby-killing leftists who control most of the state…
Though Illinois, no thanks to former President Obama, has become one of the most leftward states in the union, at least one county in that state is sticking up for the truth by declaring itself a “Sanctuary for Unborn Human Beings.”
In a time when cities are violating federal law by declaring themselves sanctuary cities for illegal immigrants, Effington County hopes they can stand against the tide by protecting the unborn from the moral scourge of abortion, an evil that Democrats refuse to confront even as they posture about families being separated at the Southern border.
Speaking before a large crowd on Monday, the county board announced they approved the pro-life law with a solid majority, according to LifeNews.
“Abortion in the United States has become a means of birth control in which the unborn are killed for the convenience of the parent(s),” the resolution reads.
The document condemns abortion in all instances except when the mother’s life is at risk. Ardent pro-lifers would say such a stance is a strong step forward but does not go far enough. Here’s LifeSite’s guide on why pro-lifers should seek to ban all abortions: “The Ultimate Guide Why Abortion is Wrong, and How to Argue In Favor of Life.”
James Niemann, the board chairman, says the measure will serve as a guide for the county regarding abortions in the future.
“Ordinances affect the public at large, resolutions effect the operations of the board of the county in general,” Niemann said. “So this is something that would affect the way the county looks at the questions that would come forward in the future.”
“In Illinois, we have contradictory laws,” he continued. “If you kill a pregnant woman, that’s two murders. However, if she has an abortion, it isn’t. It doesn’t make sense.”
Various county residents showed up to the resolution’s unveiling expressing support and opposition. Resident Vallory Kemme thanked the county for their courage.
“Thank you so much for having the courage to bring up this sensitive topic and your efforts to protect the lives of unborn children and their mothers,” Kemme said. “There are few priorities higher than protecting innocent life, especially when that life is utterly defenseless.”
