Sen. Mitch McConnell has been seen as a near total failure as a leader of the GOP for years — especially as Republicans have held all 3 bodies of power. The establishment, deep state runs deep in his blood.
But perhaps we can give him credit today after the announcement of the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy. Sen. McConnell almost immediately announced that they will vote on a new Justice (of Trump’s choosing) before the November mid-term elections… which would be a massive boost for Republicans.
The liberal tears are flowing heavy today… between the retirement announcement and McConnell’s call for a vote this fall, that “blue wave” they’ve been talking about is rapidly dissipating. Meanwhile, the “red wave” just grew a heck of a lot taller today.
During a speech on the Senate floor after the announcement of Justice Anthony Kennedy’s retirement on Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) vowed that the Senate “will vote to confirm Justice Kennedy’s successor this fall.”
McConnell said, “The Senate stands ready to fulfill its constitutional role by offering advice and consent on President Trump’s nominee to fill this vacancy. We will vote to confirm Justice Kennedy’s successor this fall. As in the case of Justice Gorsuch, senators will have the opportunity to meet with President Trump’s nominee, examine his or her qualifications, and debate the nomination.
